louisiana oil spill

Many may remember the previous Exxon oil spill which occurred on 14 March 1989 off the coast of Alaska. That spill let out 11 million gallons of oil which was the most in world wide history. The damage done form this spill were horrible. Instantly there were 1,000 of animals dead. Some other death tolls were 250,000 birds, 2,800 sea otters, 300 harbor seals, 250 bald eagles, and thousands of fish. The Louisiana oil spill is said to be much greater in damage than the spill in 1989. The spill in Louisiana happened on 20 April of this year. It happened from an explosion that killed 11 workers. As of today the spill is releasing 25,000 gallons a day. There are many people suffering from this catastrophe one of which the oyster companies. It is said that it will take 20 years for the company's to recover because as of right now all of the factories are shut down due to health hazards. As of right now there is no certain amount on how much wildlife is going to be affected by this accident. Some people in charge say the numbers will be more clear further down the road when the spill is cleaned up some more. The ways that they are working on fixing the problem is very time consuming. Some techniques they use are burning the oil, let the sun take care of it because the sun burns it away, and they recently tried to put a bowl around where the hole is on the ship. This bowl is suppose to make it that the oil will have no where to go so it will sit in there for the time being. But it was recently announced that it had failed so they are now bringing in the national guard to help. So many who think that the Exxon Valdez oil spill was bad the worse is yet to come.
