louisiana oil spill

Many may remember the previous Exxon oil spill which occurred on 14 March 1989 off the coast of Alaska. That spill let out 11 million gallons of oil which was the most in world wide history. The damage done form this spill were horrible. Instantly there were 1,000 of animals dead. Some other death tolls were 250,000 birds, 2,800 sea otters, 300 harbor seals, 250 bald eagles, and thousands of fish. The Louisiana oil spill is said to be much greater in damage than the spill in 1989. The spill in Louisiana happened on 20 April of this year. It happened from an explosion that killed 11 workers. As of today the spill is releasing 25,000 gallons a day. There are many people suffering from this catastrophe one of which the oyster companies. It is said that it will take 20 years for the company's to recover because as of right now all of the factories are shut down due to health hazards. As of right now there is no certain amount on how much wildlife is going to be affected by this accident. Some people in charge say the numbers will be more clear further down the road when the spill is cleaned up some more. The ways that they are working on fixing the problem is very time consuming. Some techniques they use are burning the oil, let the sun take care of it because the sun burns it away, and they recently tried to put a bowl around where the hole is on the ship. This bowl is suppose to make it that the oil will have no where to go so it will sit in there for the time being. But it was recently announced that it had failed so they are now bringing in the national guard to help. So many who think that the Exxon Valdez oil spill was bad the worse is yet to come.

Iowa Wrestling National Champions

Another year in the books for the outstanding Iowa wrestling team. Finishing their 3rd consecutive National Championship this year 23 total. What makes this team have the edge? There are three things that come to my mind when I think of Iowa Wrestling and those are coaches, work ethics, and their outstanding support of fans and family. The coaches of the Iowa wrestling team are Tom Brands, Terry Brands, Doug Schwab, Mike Zaddick, and of course the legend Dan Gable. These people are not just known for their coaching but their accomplishments themselves. Tom and Terry brands both qualified for the Olympics one of them winning. Zaddick who was in this last Olympics. And the name that everyone remembers is Dan Gable Olympic Gold Medalist. Many believe that with the coaching staff they have now they will be impossible to beat. The second thing that the team has is a great work ethic. Those who go through life wondering why they never were they wanted to be do not have the work ethic as this team. Day in and day out this team goes through hell just so they can accomplish their goals and have no regrets. There practices are what they are known for. They have the hardest practices that anyone could ever go through. After awhile practices are more mental than physical because your body just wants to give up. I have had the privilege to work with the team and go through what they do and I for one second do not think that they lose. The main thing that this team has is their fans and family. On Saturday nights when the hawks are wrestling at the Carver Stadium the stands are filled packed with black and yellow. Fans are what I believe to be big motivators. When you go out in front of thousands of people who are cheering you on it always gives you a little edge on the guy that you are wrestling. The roar of the crowd is what everyone wants and lives for. So next year we will all have to see what the Hawks have to bring.

TEA Party

TEA party members are back and ready for action. TEA which stands for taxed enough already is out there protesting the tax raises on the rich. Many complain that they are getting taxed to much because they get paid more. What many do not see is that they get paid more because they furthered their education and went to college to better themselves. So the major question is is it right to take people's money from them because they outworked everyone else. I do not think that this is right. I believe that if you earn your money then you get to keep your money and everyone still gets taxed the same. Some problems we may see later in the future is company's moving out of the country to save money. The reason that they would do that is because in other countries company's do not get taxed and they get to keep all of their money. Another problem that we might face is more and more unemployment. The reason that many might do that is because the more money the rich pay the more money they will get for unemployment. The TEA party is a nation wide group that travels America protesting. The leader of this group is Sarah Palin. If you are not wanting to get taxed as much cause you have a good job you should join this group. I am sure that they can use all the support that they can get.

Time square bombing

Recently in New York city a car bomb was found in times square. The scene is under investigation no real information has been released yet. Though the car did not explode it did scare a lot of people and keeping people on their feet. The only information that was said was that this was not a terrorist attack. The license plate found on the vehicle was one from Connecticut. The video that was found helped catch Faisal Shahzad the suspected bomber. The things they found in the car were: gasoline, propane, firecrackers, alarm clocks, included eight bags of a granular substance later found to be non explosive fertilizer. Experts have said that if
the bomb had gone off it could have possibly been deadly but not strong enough to knock over buildings which is what police think was the main goal of the car bomb. Though the police say this is not a terrorist attack I and many others believe that it is. There seems to be a increasing amount of terrorism and the amount of violence going on in todays world. To ensure that problems do not continue to happen in New York there is going to be a big increase in the number of police officers in the Time Square area.

Immigration Law

On April 20Th of this year a new step to stopping immigration came into law in the state of Arizona. The bill quickly began protest and many complaints. But is this necessarily a bad thing? Governor Jan Brewer was the one who signed the bill thought that this was a good thing to do and if no one else was willing to do it she was. Many who criticized were minorities themselves. President Obama as well thought that it was a bad thing to do. He believes that it is going to get mixed up with racial profiling. Racial Profiling is when someone's race is used by law enforcement officials as a basis for criminal suspicion. And people the reason of suspicion is race rather than peoples behaviors, evidence and witness reports. But the law passed in Arizona is not trying to offend anyone. The main purpose is to secure safety and make sure that there is no one sneaking into the country illegally. The immigration law requires police offers to detain people they reasonably suspect are in the country without authorization and to verify their status with federal officials. One other thing that they must do is carry their immigration cards with them at all times. If they are caught without it it is a criminal offense or a misdemeanor. Many who are worried that the police will be racial profiling can relax because after signed it will take 90 days for it to actually take place and during that time the police are getting the right kind of training. A extra site to look up the information is this.

Toyota Recall

On January 21st 2010 the major car company Toyota had to recall many of their vehicle's. The problem that they were having was dealing with the accelerator. The problem with them are rare instances the accelerator would stick when you press it. The reason the accelerators got stuck were because over time you wear out the accelerator and then it builds up friction so when u press it down it will stay down. The company has said that there is 2.3 million cars that are recalled. The list of cars that were recalled were: 2009- 10 Corolla, 09-10 Matrix, 07-10 Camry, 05-10 Avalon, 09-10 RAV4, 2010 Highlander, 07-10 Tundra, and the 08-10 Sequoia. Toyota when asked what to do if you accelerator does stick while driving you need to take you foot off of the accelerator and put the car in neutral and that will stop you from accelerating and you will be able to use your breaks. After stopped reach down and try and pull the accelerator up. When Toyota was asked how many vehicle's were involved in a car accident because of this problem Toyota could not give any answer. Many fear that their car as well may suffer from this recall and nothing will be done about it. Hopefully soon toyota will get their act together and start making safer more reliable cars.
